Leman Cottage at Wenhaston

Stunningly and sympathetically restored, Leman Cottage is steeped in history. This really is a beautiful cottage with the idiosyncrasies of the original 17th century structure, combined with all the modern comforts of today. From the heavily beamed ceilings and open brickwork to the elm floorboards and original bread oven, Leman oozes unspoilt character. Comfortably furnished throughout Leman is particularly spacious and with a large en-suite to the master king-size bedroom. Ideal for families or couples. In a quiet, countryside location. Sleeps 5 plus cot. 10 minutes drive to Southwold and coastal villages, 15 minute walk to village pub, 10 minute walk to village shop.

Guest Review:  This is our second stay at Leman cottage.  We love it.  Peaceful, comfortable and such a brilliant base for getting about in Suffolk.  I could stay here quite happily for the whole summer, what a find, couldnot be better.  The sun shone all week the first time and again on this occasion.  R & C B June 2022

Guest reviews

  • Pam and Andy had a wonderful time at Leman cottage.  It is a very special cottage and ina fantastic location.  We loved the Theatre in the woods at Thorington and went twice! Thank you for your walk recommendations and we did lots of them.

The real highlight was a visit to Lavenham, a beautiful medieval village.

I am sure we will be back and would also love to visit some of your other properties.  Every best wish for your Suffolk Coastal Cottages Business. P&A M July 2022

Thank you for all your wonderful hospitality during our 2 week stay. Leman Cottage is full of character and charm and had everything we needed. It is perfectly placed, just near enough to the beautiful Suffolk Heaths and Coast for easy access, yet just far enough to avoid the crowds. Also centrally placed for the surrounding pretty villages with all there historic charm, great pubs and network of public footpaths. So much to do - fantastic for walking, cycling, eating, shopping, wildlife and just generally relaxing. Will definitely be back. Why bother with the hassles of flying abroad when we have places like this on our doorstep. Many thanks again Trish for a fantastic holiday. Mark and Jo June 2022.

  • We had a lovely week at Leman cottage-wonderful character and very comfortable, thank you.  Trish was a great host.  Suffolk is beautiful.  S, M, and Bing the dog - great walks locally for Bing! May 2022

Trish was a fabulous host throughout and always ready to help in any way and offer suggestions of where to explore.  Kind, patient and thoughtful  What a charming place with real history and character. JHC April 2022

  • Wonderful week, helped by excellent weather. Lovely walks at Tinker's Marsh Walberswick and both sides of the Alde from Snape, with views across the marshes.  M & S and two dogs, September 2021

We had such a wonderful stay at Leman cotage, full of olde world charm and really cosy, and well cleaned.  Perfect for the dog too and the children loved haveing a garden to run around in.  thanks Trish for making us so welcome, Suffolk is beautiful! D & LC, September 2021

  • We had a wonderful stay in Leman Cottage which was very cosy and full of character and the table tennis was a real bonus thank you. We enjoyed visiting Southwold and playing lots of golf. Many thanks for a lovely stay. T D J A & B Y June 2021

We stayed with my parents and two young children and had an absolutely wonderful time. The house is in a charming, secluded location that is perfect for exploring the Suffolk Coast nearby. The house has loads of character and plenty of room and the outdoor space was lovely for dining and enjoying the sunshine. Nearby there's nice pubs and a great farm shop just down the road. Trish was really accommodating (even lending us her father's 80+ year old highchair for our baby!) and a great host. Would thoroughly recommend and hopefully will be back again in the future. TO August 2021

  • I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Leman cottage. It has everything you want for a cosy rural break - an enormous fireplace, beautiful exposed wooden beams, and lots of good walking nearby. The living room and bedrooms were beautifully presented, and I particularly appreciated the big bath to soak in! The kitchen was well equipped and bright, with the added bonus of underfloor heating for chilly mornings. The cottage is also ideally located, far enough out of the village to feel truly in the countryside but close enough to walk to the village shop and pub! I particularly enjoyed being able to cycle to the beautiful surrounding villages as well as to the beach at Dunwich for a swim. All in all highly recommended. JT April 2020

Local Area

Pub: 15 minutes walk to Wenhaston Star Inn, local friendly pub with Boules in the garden. Blyford Queens Head and Bramfield Queens Head walking distance too. Many other pubs and restaurants inland or at the coast an easy car journey away.

Shop: 10 minutes walk to grocery shop, or 25 minutes walk to award winning local family butcher at Clarke's of Bramfield. Village Post Office is just opposite the Church, open mornings. Recommend Independent foodie and book shops in Halesworth, ten minutes drive away.

There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants. At the moment we like The Anchor and The Bell Inn both in Walberswick, Bramfield Queens Head, Blyford Queens Head, Darsham Fox and Huntingfield Arms.

Local independent foodie shops that sell locally produced food:

Suffolk has great churches, full of history.. for local services see Blyth Valley Team Ministry and the Sole Bay Ministry.
We like Wenhaston with its Doom painting and Thorington with its Round Tower.
Blythburgh for its wonderful setting and carved angels on the roof.
Huntingfield with its painted ceiling
Walberswick and Southwold for fine flint work.

There are numerous walks around the village on Blackheath and common land as well as footpaths leading to the Balancing Barn at Thorington, and on to Blythburgh, Southwold and Halesworth. Dogs are welcome to walk too.

South Lowestoft Beach is sandy and is at the eastern most point in the country.
Walk to Pakefield and Kessingland and keep heading south - only a few miles along the Suffolk Coast Path.
Southwold - plenty of sand by the Pier and Gun Hill, excellent cafes by the beach
Dunwich - a more stony beach but plenty of space for walking, swimming and a large car park next to the Flora Tea Rooms well known for fish and chips, there is also The Ship Inn and a museum well worth a visit telling the history of this special place.
Walk up by Dunwich Priory too.
A walk from Thorpeness to Aldeburgh and on to Felixstowe completes the coastal walk!
